NOW TV is one of the best streaming services on the internet. It offers a good range of popular TV shows and movies which you can watch whenever you want. NOW TV can be streamed through a number of devices, including tablets, Roku, and Smart TVs.

But the problem is once again the same. If you are not in the UK you cannot watch Now TV…unless you have the right piece of information!

Are you wondering how to watch Now TV outside the UK? It is easier than you may think.

The secret rests in a good VPN still working for Now TV. Exactly, a VPN is the simple solution to watch Now TV from everywhere around the globe but not all VPNs serve the purpose.

Many VPN services have been blocked by Now TV but you can still find a few of them that have not been banned.

We tested several VPN connections and selected the few ones that still work to watch Now TV outside the UK.

NOW TV Geo-Restriction

NOW TV is similar to other top streaming services in that it allows only people from a particular part of the world to access it. Copyright laws prevent these services from giving users everywhere access to them. Even if they have their service in those parts, the content varies for the same reason.

But NOW TV has a single service in the British Isles. If you try to access it from outside this region, you will get an error message like ‘Sorry, this service is not available in your region’.

How To Watch NOW TV Outside The UK

NOW TV Outside UK

As mentioned in the section above, NOW TV is only available to people in the UK. But how does the streaming service know you are in the UK? The answer is; through your IP address.

Your IP address contains information about the operating system you are using, and the location you are using the internet from. If you are found to be in any area outside the British Isles, you are denied access to NOW TV. This holds true even if you are a UK national but are currently outside the region.

To get access to NOW TV from anywhere, you have to fool the service into thinking you are in the UK. Since it uses your IP address to determine your location, you have to spoof your IP address and make it look like you are in the UK. Don’t worry, you don’t have to learn the technical aspect or be a computer whiz to do this, for there are dedicated software and tools to help you out.

SmartDNS

A SmartDNS service can help you access any website blocked in your region. These services don’t really change your IP address, but simply hide the part of your IP address that shows your location. Your internet connection does not change at all.

But SmartDNS services aren’t always successful.

This is why they give you a list of websites they help you unblock. So, when you try to access a website in this list, the DNS request goes to a remote server. This server is in a location where access to the website you want is allowed. The DNS server wrongly thinks that you are in that location as well, and you thus get access to the website you want.

SmartDNS services aren’t really expensive, and since they offer fast connections, you can use them to unblock and use streaming services to good effect. NOW TV is a service which can be accessed through popular SmartDNS services like Unlocator.

VPN For NOW TV

A Virtual Private Network is a great tool for those wishing to spoof their location and hide their online activity. The location spoofing aspect of VPNs works somewhat similarly to that of SmartDNS, though there are a few differences. For starters, your IP address changes when you connect to a VPN server. The IP address visible to anyone is that of the VPN server.

Then, the part of the IP relating to your location isn’t hidden. Since the IP is that of the VPN server, nobody knows your true location. The location of the VPN server you are using seems to be your location. So, to access NOW TV from anywhere, you only have to use a good VPN service and connect to one of its UK servers to pretend to be in the UK.

NordVPN

Best Netflix VPN NordVPN

NordVPN has been on the market for a long time. After a period in the shadows when new VPN providers took over, Private Internet Access VPN is back in the limelight with a wholly renewed service.

This VPN guarantees super-strong data protection and excellent connection speeds that allow you to access streaming content without interruptions or low video resolution. As far as NOW TV UK is concerned, NordVPN enables you to access it without hesitation.

To unlock NOW TV, you need to connect to the service, preferably through your browser’s private window after connecting to one of the different servers in the UK.

NordVPN allows you to connect 6 devices simultaneously, and you can benefit from a 30-day money-back guarantee. The app is one of the easiest easy to use, making this VPN a good choice even for beginners.

ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN Official website

If we were to say that ExpressVPN is the best VPN in the market, we wouldn’t be entirely wrong, and no one could give us a string of arguments against it. In an industry where there are more than 800 players, ExpressVPN sits on top because of its excellence in service.

ExpressVPN is a top VPN, but it’s also the best VPN you can have for accessing NOW TV outside the UK. It offers good encryption with OpenVPN AES 256-bit encryption and offers blazing speed connections to users. It has more than 3000 servers across 160 countries of the world.

Many of these are located in the UK, so you have plenty of connectivity options when you wish to access NOW TV. For users living in countries like China and UAE with strict laws against VPN usage, ExpressVPN offers stealth servers that hide the fact that you are using a VPN. This also enables it to get under NOW TV’s VPN radar and allow users to access it from outside the UK.

ExpressVPN has the best round the clock customer support service among all VPNs. Although its cost of subscription is a slight hiccup, it gives you great value in return. You also have access to a 30-day money back guarantee and can use the service on 3 devices simultaneously.

Right now ExpressVPN has a special offer for Anonymster.

30-Day Money Back Guarantee

CyberGhost

cyberghost vpn

CyberGhost is a Romanian based VPN service that has a long history in the VPN industry. Although it got pegged back by newcomers in recent years, it has improved its service and returned in the upper echelons of the VPN industry.

CyberGhost offers strong encryption to users. It offers some of the best connection speeds you can see in the market and has more than 6390 servers in over 90 countries around the world. A substantial amount of these are in the UK, so you have plenty of options to use when looking to unblock NOW TV from anywhere in the world.

CyberGhost helps you get past the VPN filter NOW TV has in place. You don’t even need to select a UK server. You can simply click on the NOW TV icon in the CyberGhost client, and it will connect you to the required server automatically.

CyberGhost has a good customer support service, offers a 30-day money back guarantee, and allows 5 simultaneous connections. It’s a good option to have.

Buffered

This Hungary based VPN is a VPN service on the rise. Started in 2013, Buffered has made a name for itself due to its efficient VPN service.

Buffered offers strong OpenVPN protection and high-speed connections. When you add that to the hundreds of servers it has in over 39 countries, including the UK, you would think that it is a good NOW TV VPN service. You won’t be wrong in thinking that since Buffered can help you access NOW TV from anywhere in the world.

Buffered VPN Review 3

What’s more, it has a port discovery mode, which scans nearby Wi-Fi connections for open ports. If you have a public Wi-Fi near your residence that offers high-speed connections, you can use this mode to connect it and then stream NOW TV seamlessly.

Buffered has a few off-putting features, though. It is quite expensive, and when you compare it with other VPNs that are in the same price range, it does not offer as much. There are no mobile clients as of now, but you can use it on iOS and Android nevertheless. Buffered lets you have 5 simultaneous connections and is developing its mobile clients as well, so it is definitely a good option. There’s also a 30-day money back guarantee you can utilize.

Top 5 VPNs for Project Free TV (3)

While we mentioned that SmartDNS services are a good option to consider when you are looking to unblock streaming service, we would be remiss to not recommend VPNs as the ideal solution. The reason for that is the safety which VPNs give you.

VPNs not only change your IP address, they also encrypt your connection. This means that nobody can see what you are doing on the internet when you are connected to a VPN. This makes your activity confidential and your identity a mystery.

VPNs also make your connection secure to share sensitive information like bank account details over the internet.

So, although SmartDNS services are faster and cheaper than VPNs, they are pale in comparison to the security and reliability which VPNs give their users.

While VPNs help you access websites blocked in your region, they face new challenges when it comes to helping you unblock streaming services. Most prime streaming services today block VPN users from accessing their service.

To prevent users from outside their coverage area to access the service and thereby indulge in copyright infringement, streaming services like Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and NOW TV block VPN users. A lot of VPNs are therefore rendered useless in helping their subscribers access these websites.

A good NOW TV VPN is not just one that offers high-speed connections, good encryption, good customer support service, and is priced reasonably.

It is also one that allows users to access NOW TV from anywhere and does not succumb to the VPN block that the streaming service employs. The following are the VPNs that fall in that bracket.

You may find some other VPN to watch NOW TV but the 3 in our list have been tested and consistently work. Other VPN services like, for instance, NordVPN or IPVanish didn’t prove so stable to watch NOW TV outside the UK even though they are great services for other purposes.

At times, even using a VPN you may find that NOW TV blocks you. It may be that some of the VPNs we mention in this article get temporarily blocked by the platform. Usually, in just a short time they become fully operational again.

However, if you are using a VPN on our list and still cannot watch NOW TV, just get in touch with the VPN customer support and they will help you troubleshoot the problem.

In the meantime, you can try some simple tricks that may solve the problem as well:

  • Access NOW TV using a private window in your browser
  • Delete the cache
  • Delete cookies
  • Check if you have a DNS leak
  • Start the NOW TV Player after the VPN is on

Following is a summary of the VPNs we have tested and that at the time of writing this article were able to unblock NOW TV.

Conclusion

NOW TV is a great streaming service, which allows its customers to watch popular shows like Game of Thrones. It can be accessed from a variety of devices and operating systems, so you can watch NOW TV from almost any device you connect to the internet through.

However, like many streaming services, it is available in select parts of the world and is also actively blocking VPN users from around the world. It is still possible to watch NOW TV from outside the UK with some VPNs and SmartDNS services, though. The ideal choice is to use the top VPNs as they offer security and reliability.

NOW TV famously blocks IP addresses that it detects from VPNs. He don’t give details about how, when, and from which countries he tested these recommended VPNs for NOW TV, or his success rate.

I can’t leave a comment asking him to publish his testing parameters, and the results for accessing NOW TV from abroad. I suspect he gets a fee if you hit a link on his page, other than that I’d take these recommendations with a pinch of salt. Or, hopefully he’ll publish confirmation about how he accessed NOW TV with a VPN.

        Hi Philip,
        Thanks for your comment.
As you requested, we have added a video where you can see that we can access NOW TV from outside the UK. Specifically, our tester was connecting from Italy.
About getting a commission, there is no need to guess as it is plainly stated on the website that we may get a commission from some VPN. However, our tests are always genuine and we never list a VPN if it doesn’t work for the specific tasks. Rest assured that VPNs do not push us to feature them as we are a totally independent website and what we write is the result of our tests.
Thanks for being such an attentive reader and thank you for a good idea to add proof of how a VPN can unblock Now TV.

      Hi Claire,

Did you try to contact ExpressVPN customer support to troubleshoot the problem?
As you can see, we have included in our article a video where we access Now TV using ExpressVPN. For your reference, we have recorded the video just last week.

The same day we have double-checked even PIA VPN and we had no problem accessing Now TV as well.

      Cheers
